FAQ

Waxing

What if I’m pregnant?
Sometimes your skin may feel a bit tender during pregnancy, but there is no harm to your baby. Make sure to discuss your pregnancy with your waxing specialist. The more they know about you the better they can make your waxing service.
What if I’m taking medications or have allergies?
If you’re taking any medication or have allergies, please consult with your waxing specialist. Taking antibiotics or topical acne medicines (including Accutane, Differin, Retin A, prednisone or corticosteroids) may make skin more sensitive and susceptible to some skin lifting.
Do men wax?
Absolutely! Beyond the Manzilian (the male version of the Brazilian) many men also wax their chests, backs, noses and ears. Some men love to be slick from top to toes, and we can take care of that.
How long should me hair be?
Let your hair grow to at least ¼ inch – this is about the length of your bottom eyelash. Even if you are feeling like a little chia pet, don’t worry; our waxing specialist will take care of you! It is better to go in with all you’ve got and more rather than trimming to try and tidy up before your visit.
Should I shave or trim my hair before visits?
If you find yourself tempted to shave or trim, don’t! Once you see that waxing leaves you stubble-free, you won’t want to. Staying away from clippers and razors will also help to remove more growth cycles during your next visit. If you have the urge to shave in between visits, book them closer together! Razors and clippers chop the hair at its thickest, making it harder for the wax to hold on to!
Is there an age requirement?
While you’re never too old for a wax guest 17 and younger should bring their parent or guardian in for their first visit.
Will my hair grow back darker or thicker?
No! Waxing actually helps the hair to grow back at a finer texture, making it easier to remove during your next visit. And an added bonus: The more you get waxed, the less it hurts; it just keeps getting better!
What if I have a sunburn?
Please wait for your sunburn to heal before getting waxed to avoid lifting of the skin during the waxing process (OUCH!). The same applies to rashes and other skin irritations.
Can I go tanning after getting waxed?
Try to wait 48 hours to tan after waxing, just to be safe! If you do find yourself needing to be outside in the sunshine, just make sure to use some SPF!
How close together should I schedule my visits?
Not all re-growth cycles are the same. Some people get waxed every three weeks, while some (LUCKY) people can make it six! If you are unsure of how close to book your appointments, try four weeks apart to start and go from there.
Can I workout or get sweaty after getting waxed?
Try to avoid going to the gym post-wax for 48 hours; perspiration can irritate your skin!
What is the best way to avoid ingrown hairs?
The best way to handle them is to NOT! Don’t fuss with ingrown hairs, because this makes you prone to infection and scarring. If you’re prone to these pesky buggers, talk to your waxing specialist who can recommend an exfoliation regimen. Even if you don’t normally get ingrown hairs, keep your hands off freshly waxed skin, as this can encourage irritation or small pimples.
Can I have my morning coffee before my waxing appointment?
Caffeine can make skin more sensitive, so it is best to wait to have your coffee until AFTER getting waxed. If you must have your coffee, consider taking some ibuprofen before your visit.
Should I exfoliate?
Start an exfoliation routine two days after you get waxed to help prevent ingrown hairs. If you have questions about what kind of routine would be best for you, ask your waxing specialist during your visit.
Can I relax in the hot tub or take a bath after getting waxed?
Try to stay away from HOT environments like saunas and hot tubs for 48 hours. Even hot baths can cause irritation and infections, and the same goes for swimming pools (48 hours).
What should I wear when I come in for my waxing?
Go for something comfy! You will be more comfortable post-wax if you wear looser clothing like a comfy dress and cotton undies!
Will waxing my nostrils hurt more than just tweezing them?
Not at all! Unlike tweezing, waxing removes all the hairs at once with just one pull, saving time and grief!
Should I take Ibuprofen before my visit?
If you have a low pain tolerance, take ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment to help!
How soon before a special event should I schedule a waxing?
Plan at least two visits in before the event so you (and your skin) have some time to get used to the process!
Will my period effect my waxing appointment?
It’s okay to wax when on your period. Just change your tampon right before your appointment. Also remember that the increase of blood flow may make your skin more sensitive, so you may want to take some ibuprofen before your visit.
How long after a Brazilian or bikini wax before I can be intimate?
It’s important to avoid intimate contact for at least 48 hours after your wax appointment. With sensitive skin and open pores, freshly waxed skin is more susceptible to bacteria.
Is it alright to freshen up after getting waxed?
Try to avoid using deodorant, moisturizer or other creams and lotions for several hours after waxing so you don’t clog your pores.
What type of wax does Massage Theory use?
We have several waxes, both hard and soft, to choose from based on your skin type and area being waxed.
